Development and Strategy Directorate
The Development and Strategy Directorate within the Department of Culture and the Arts, works with a range of stakeholders to encourage appreciation and participation in arts and culture in Western Australia. State Government support is provided in many ways, including arts and cultural policy development and related distribution of an annual funding budget of approximately $20 million.
Funding is provided to 45 funded arts organisation and more than $4 million in project funds is distributed to individuals and organisations through the grants program, which includes five peer assessment panels: Arts Development, Indigenous Arts, Young People and the Arts (including Quick Response), Contemporary Music (including Quick Response) and Designer Fashion.
The Department of Culture and the Arts manages other creative arts sector development programs, including the Artflight travel assistance program. Applications are invited from individuals, groups, Local Government and organisations requiring financial assistance to undertake arts activity in all artforms (excluding film, television and radio).
The Department also undertakes policy development in relation to regional arts and culture assists in coordinating services to the regions by Government cultural agencies and liaises on issues relating to Government investment in regional capital works. A Regional Arts and Culture Policy was released in 2003, and in 2005 the Community Cultural and Arts Facilities Fund (CCAFF) for capital works projects was established.

FORM
Is the peak professional association for Western Australian artists, craftspeople and designers working in 3D media. FORM proactively seeks and creates opportunities for the craft and design industry, eg. through Designing Futures, a program designed to foster a sustainable and self-sufficient craft and design industry in WA. Healthway***
Healthway sponsors arts and cultural activities which target one or more ‘at risk’ or priority populations (idenitified in Healthway’s 2004 – 2007 Strategic Plan as young people & children, Indigenous people, rural and remote communities, economically, socially or educationally disadvantaged groups and other disadvantaged groups or groups in whom inequalities exist) groups with low income levels and low levels of education and others in whom health inequalities exist) and which provide opportunities for health promotion. Sponsorship is available to incorporated organisations wishing to conduct projects which increase participation and/or improve the quality of community based arts or cultural activities. Heritage Council of WA***
The Heritage Council is the state’s heritage advisory body in relation to places, buildings and sites. It’s mission, provide for and encourage the conservation of places which have significance to the cultural heritage of Western Australia, is achieved through the maintenance of the State Heritage Register (legal protection), by ensuring the development of heritage places is in harmony with their cultural heritage values and by promoting awareness and knowledge of our cultural heritage. The Heritage Council also runs various grant schemes to encourage the conservation of our State's built heritage. In particular, projects that increase the opportunities of Aboriginal people according to community identified priorities, such as community leadership, community development and enhancement, emotional and social wellbeing, welfare and safety, life changing opportunities and community participation and empowerment.

Museum Assistance Program (Western Australian Museum)
This unit provides information and advice on all aspects of operation, including management and planning, conservation, documentation, interpretation, tourism development, digitisation, disaster preparedness, grant preparation and more.
Advisory services are tailored to assist organisations to achieve the principles of best practice outlined in the national guidelines for museums, galleries and keeping places. Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI)***
aims to assist and encourage the involvement of all Western Australians in projects and events that facilitate positive interaction among the citizens of our diverse community. Examples of applications that have received funding include cross-cultural festivals, community events and celebrations, concerts and plays, seminars, workshops, forums, exhibitions and conferences. Grant amounts will vary according to the scope of the project, but priority is given to applications that have: the potential for "flow-on" benefits; attract income from other sources; and demonstrate community support. OMI promotes Harmony Week and is offering small grants of up to $2,000 to assist not-for-profit Community based groups and Local Government Authorities around the State to plan and coordinate activities or events to acknowledge and appreciate our cultural diversity.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is Australia’s leading puppetry company creating entertaining and inspirational theatre for young people and their families. The SLC promotes the development of literature and writing-related activities in the whole of Western Australia. They have a strong regional program which includes Writers on the Road, where writers tour regional areas, giving talks and workshops. The Centre also organises conferences for regional writers from time to time, provides information to regional writers on publishing opportunities, supports regional writing festivals, offers funding to country writing groups so they can hire a professional writer to run a workshop with them, and provides funding for writers to visit country libraries.
