| Yiyili is situated 170 kms south east of Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia on cattle station, Louisa Downs and Gooniyandi is the traditional language. Yiyili has a strong group of artists who are supported through the Laarri Gallery located in the community. There are also many budding and experienced musicians.The Yiyili Community School caters for about 55 students from Yiyili and the surrounding outstations; Ganinya, Goolgaradah, Kurinyjarn, Pullout Springs and Rocky Springs. The population of the community and outstations is around 250.
The school accommodates the Laarri Gallery, a facility for community members to create and sell the unique art of this area, creating an opportunity for learning and enterprise for all. The gallery has been a great success and underwent recent expansion. In 2007, Laarri artists came first in both the Indigenous and Overall categories in the Kimberley Art Prize.
In early 2007 Country Arts WA formed what was to become a strong partnership with Yiyili Aboriginal Community. Country Arts WA offered the Out There Youth Arts Program to the Kimberley region and Yiyili was selected to host the program following a Kimberley-wide call for expressions of interest in 2006.
